KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Overland Park City Council on Monday denied a permit to a proposed pet day care that had neighbors expressing concerns.

The Two Dogs and a Cat day care planned to take over vacant space at an Overland Park strip mall near 76th Street and Metcalf Avenue. But residents came out against the proposal, arguing that barking dogs would create noisy conditions for nearby homes.

The pet day care, which has a location at 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue, wanted to expand as part of downtown Overland Park’s boom. Owner John Cavalcanti previously told 41 Action News that the new store would be smaller and house up to 90 dogs.

The council voted down the permit for the project on a 9-2 vote.
