Overland Park police say a registered sex offender was allegedly caught searching for child porn on a computer at the Johnson County Library.
According to a search warrant filed in federal court, a person noticed Robert David Dwork looking at pictures of a young naked boy on the computer.
Library staff alerted Overland Park Police.
“There are a lot of people coming and going so it's a really dynamic and lively environment there are a lot of different people doing a lot of different things,” Christopher Leitch, the Johnson County library community relations coordinator said.
The 48-year-old man admitted to officers he searched the term “boys bodies” and “that he was attempting to find some legal images which were sexual or erotic in nature.”
An officer then discovered Dwork carrying a flash drive filled with 3,800 images of adult and child porn.
This is the workstation Dwork allegedly used at the library. The FBI took the computer's tower as part of their investigation.
The FBI took the computer that Dwork allegedly used at the library.
The allegations are disturbing to parents like Molly Holmes who visits the library weekly with her two young daughters.
“When you come up to the library you think you're kids are going to be fine it's something that you wouldn't think you would have to worry about looking at that so it's a shame,” Holmes said.
Leitch told 41 Action News computers at all of their branches have filters that are designed to block obscene material including child pornography. There is also a code of conduct in place for whoever who uses a computer workstation.
“Anyone who applies for a library card agrees to follow those policies and anyone even with a guest pass because you don't have to have a library card to use a computer at the library agrees to adhere to those,” Leitch said.
Dwork, who lives at a home on the 5900 block of W. 94th terrace registered as a sex offender following two convictions one for aggravated indecent liberties with a child in 2004 and sexual exploitation of a child in 2013.
