KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man accused of two murders and suspected in three others appeared in court Thursday.

Fredrick Scott, 22, is charged in the murders of John Palmer and Steve Gibbons. He’s also the prime suspect in the shooting deaths of three other men on or near the Indian Creek Trail, including Mike Darby.

At Thursday’s hearing, Scott wore a shirt and tie with khaki pants instead of a jail jumpsuit—that request made by his public defender, Ruth Russell.

Jackson County Associate Circuit Judge Mary Weir did grant prosecutors a continuance for Scott’s preliminary hearing. Scott’s next court hearing is set for Oct. 23 at 10 a.m.

Darby’s family packed the courtroom to see the accused killer in person.

“There is nothing that prepares you for a day like today. It literally makes your heart stop beating. We just keep praying for justice, we keep praying for tips and leads and that’s all we can ask for right now,” Allison Boddicker, Darby’s daughter, said.

41 Action News obtained the search warrant detectives filed during their investigation on Scott.

The six pages detail how detectives asked Facebook for Scott’s profile history, and they sought permission to search a driveway near Scott’s home.

Investigators also pulled everything linked to Scott’s cellphone and also reached out to Google, asking the company to give them everything associated with one of Scott’s emails.

“The police department, they’ve done such a great job. They’re going to bring this home. I’m confident we’re close. We just want to get this guy,” Brian Darby, Mike Darby’s son, said.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information on Scott that can help them solve these cases. You can call the KCPD homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or the KC Crimestoppers Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
