UPDATE 2/17: The dog named Emmi that was missing following an apartment complex fire Wednesday morning has been found.

Owner Chloe Harris says Emmi was found under a bed on the second floor.

"Emmi made it down a few flights of stairs and snuck into someone's apartment and ran under a bed," Harris said. "My boyfriend brought her to me. He found her about 8:00 a.m."

Chloe and Emmi reunited for the first time after the fire.

Harris says Emmi has no injuries, but is having trouble breathing. She has taken her dog to Union Hill Animal Hospital for further medical evaluation. Emmi will most likely be there overnight.

A dog is missing after it escaped an apartment fire.

The fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Westport Central apartment building on West Armour Blvd and Central St.

The fire led to the evacuation of all the residents, many of them with pets.

Firefighters found flames and smoke in one of the apartment units on the fifth floor of the building.

Crews quickly put the fire out and used fans to get rid of the smoke.

No one was inside the unit at the time of the fire.

Chloe Harris and her boyfriend showed up at 4:00 a.m. and discovered the damage in the apartment. Harris’ dog, Emmi, was also missing.

Emmi is an Italian Greyhound that's about seven pounds and seven years old.

"She is skittish, so she's probably freaking out right now. I'm really glad to know that she's safe and escaped the fire. I went into the room first not knowing if she was in there or not. I was pretty nervous at that point, but I'm really glad to know that she's OK,” Harris said as she searched for her dog Emmi.

Although it's early in the investigation, officials said it doesn't appear the aparment fire is suspicious.
