Every time Bryan Boettcher starts his car, a camera mounted to his dashboard begins to roll.
"It sees everything, it hears everything," he said in an exclusive interview with 41 Action News. "I wanted the camera in case I was ever in an accident that had questionable blame."
Boettcher has had the camera for a little over a year and a half but has never captured video that's gone viral until he witnessed a hit and run and decided to step on the gas.
"I don't really remember where it all went. I was just focused on following him and not getting into an accident. That was my goal," he said. "This was very personal to me. This is not the first time something like this has happened."
Boettcher chased the car while his passenger called police immediately. The entire time, his dashboard camera was rolling.
41 Action News cut portions of the video to protect Boettcher and his passengers' privacy. It shows Boettcher's car chasing the suspected hit-and-run vehicle down the highway and through Kansas City neighborhoods until the car pulls over onto a curb.
