KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach pulled off what many thought was impossible.

Officially announcing on Monday the extension of defensive tackle Chris Jones, 41 Action News learned how the GM was able to fit Mahomes’ and Jones’ monster deals under the cap this offseason.

“As soon as his deal got done, Pat text me,” Jones told the media. “Let’s get this thing done. I left some on the table.”

Mahomes signed a 10-year extension reportedly worth over $450 million on July 6. Just days later, after a reportedly lengthy stalemate, Jones and the Chiefs agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth nearly $85 million.

“That’s when I had the security that me and the Chiefs were going to work something out,” Jones said about receiving the message from his QB. “I was confident that we were going to get something done.”
