A first for First Friday: Kids' art on display

Posted

At only 7 years old, Skylar Parker has already found her passion. But few people have ever seen her work - until now.

"I gotta say, I was really excited," said Skylar.

For the first time, children's artwork is on display at First Friday, including Skylar's work.

"Obviously I'm gushing already. I'm super proud," said Skylar's mom, Robyn Nicola. "I'm very proud of her."

Ruthie Becker, the owner of Gallery 504 in the Crossroads, thought children's work needed a spot at the popular art show, which is held on the first Friday of each month.

"I thought, 'Let's get these kids out there,'" said Becker. "Let's have them come out and show what they've got."

A quick look around the gallery and it's clear what they've got is talent.

"This show brings love and light into the room," said Becker. "You just see all the color and the happiness coming from all the paintings."

The children, from KC to St. Joseph, were selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.

No judging here. Just a special first for First Friday.

First Friday is held Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Crossroads.
