Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2020! We hope you have a great year ahead of you. Let's take it one day at a time as we enjoy every minute of each day.

The weather on January 1st was fantastic. We had sunshine; a good breeze from the south; and temperatures warmed up into the 50s after a cold start. There was a little frost on the windshields of the cars left outside last night and early this morning. Then, the sun came out and did a great job!

Did you know that the warmest day in December was on Christmas Day! Wow! It was 66 degrees that day, and we never had a major cold blast last month. We are predicting one near the end of this month. The lowest temperature happened t two weeks before Christmas when it dropped to 14°. We had one snow storm that produced 3.5" at KCI Airport with higher amounts over the rest of the city. Then, we had a very wet storm at the end of the month, and this pushed December to over average on rainfall, which includes melted down snow.

As we look ahead, there are no major storm systems for a while. Hopefully this will last through the Chiefs home playoff game a week from Sunday!

Happy New Year from our weather team and news team here at KSHB-TV!
