Good morning bloggers,

Well, it appears that Kansas had its first tornado yesterday. Here is a picture tweeted out from Reed Timmer yesterday, but there are still questions on whether or not it was on the ground. What appears to be a tornado in the distance can easily be above the ground as a funnel cloud as you get closer to it. These get reported all the time, even from storm chasers who get a little excited.

It appears to be a tornado, and it likely was one. There are no reports of damage in that area, so let's see what the NWS survey team finds. Here are the storm reports from yesterday:

There is that one tornado report, and the other severe weather wind reports from that large thunderstorm. Somehow, Kansas City had areas of the metro that only had a few sprinkles. KCI Airport reported NO measurable rain last night, and the KC metro area was pretty much in a hole. A thunderstorm did intensify over downtown and produced over an inch of rain in Blue Springs, MO, and 0.44" at KSHB on the east side of the Plaza, and most of the metro had either no rain, just sprinkles, to not that much. Well there is more on the way, one more good chance on Saturday.

The above picture is a forecast for Saturday morning, and the picture below shows the rainfall from our in-house KSHB computer model for Saturday afternoon:

There will be a little storm spinning up from Oklahoma. There are no risks of severe thunderstorms that we see at this time. The chance of rain is 80% later tonight and tomorrow. And, there is an area of rain moving in right now, but it is slowly falling apart. This will lead to a drier Friday afternoon with temperatures warming into the lower 70s.

Kansas City Weather Time-Line:

  • Today: Cloudy with a good chance of rain showers before noon. The chance of rain drops to 20% this afternoon. Light winds around 10 mph variable in direction. High: 73°
  • Tonight: There is a chance of thunderstorms and rain showers by morning. The chance of rain increases to 60%. Low: 65°
  • Saturday: Cloudy with an 80% chance of rain and a few heavy thunderstorms. High: 72°
  • Sunday: Some sun breaks out. High: 74°

Have a great day. I hope everyone is doing well. It is almost Friday Night In The Big Town!
