Good "Victory" Monday bloggers,
What a game on Sunday! Since the Chiefs pulled out the victory we get to talk about Chiefs weather for next Sunday. Mother Nature is celebrating "victory" Monday with a spectacular sunrise.
We are tracking a weak system that will bring a variety of weather across the area today. This will be followed by a big midweek warm up which will be followed by an increasingly complex weekend forecast. Let's go day by day through Chiefs Sunday.
TODAY (NOON-3 PM): A weak system with a surface low will be dropping southeast across the area. The surface low will track right near Kansas City. South of the track it will be partly to mostly sunny with highs 45-55 and windy with gusts to 20-30 mph from the west. North of the surface low track highs will be in the 30s with scattered rain, sleet and snow showers. The wind will be east-northeast at 5-15 mph. We do not expect any major road issues, but some slick spots are possible near the Iowa border. Kansas City may see a sprinkle or flurry with highs around 40 and not much wind.
TODAY (3-6 PM): The system will track off to the southeast and all locations will see temperatures drop to the 30s. A few snow showers and flurries will still be possible across northern Missouri, maybe flurries in Kansas City.
MONDAY NIGHT-TUESDAY MORNING: There will be areas of clouds with lows in the 20s. The wind will be 5-15 mph from the north and then west.
TUESDAY: It will be partly to mostly cloudy with highs in all locations 40-45. The wind will be W-SW 5-15 mph.
WEDNESDAY: It will be sunny and windy with highs in the 50s. The wind will be from the south and southwest, gusting to 30-40 mph.
THURSDAY: A weak cold front will drift by under a partly cloudy sky. Highs should still reach the 50s with much less wind.
FRIDAY: A second cold front will move through Thursday night and this will drop temperatures back to average. Highs will be in the 30s. It will be a dry day under a partly cloudy sky. Arctic air will be lurking across northern Iowa and Minnesota. It will likely stay north of I-80 for the time being.
SATURDAY-SUNDAY: The forecast is becoming more complex with time as we track the cold air heading south at the same time 1-2 systems track in from the west. At this time it looks like we could see a mix to rain Saturday into Sunday, ending by game time. The keywords are "at this time" as expect forecast changes before we settle on the correct forecast. How much cold air will head south? How will the storm system interact with the cold air that is here? How strong will the storm system be? Where will it track? Stay tuned!
We are looking at mostly above average temperatures the next 5 days. Then, the end of the week into next weekend will get more interesting.
Have a great week, stay healthy and GO CHIEFS!
