Good Saturday bloggers,

We have had an interesting year of weather. We are currently sitting at the 6th wettest calendar year ever and if KCI gets what the forecast shows, we could jump to #4 before we ring in 2020. 52.72" is currently the amount at the 4th wettest. Should we receive 1.80" at KCI we will jump to a top three wettest calendar year ever. 53.50" is the current amount at #3. We had snow on Halloween, a near record high on Christmas and record long river flooding. Welcome to the Midwest.

As of 5 AM we were sitting at 51.71" of rain for the year. But, Since October 5th it has been much drier. We will add .50" to 1.50" to the yearly total before we enter 2020. Some locations may see close to 2" of rain today. Keep in mind all of December averages 1.53" and some locations may see that in 10 hours today.

SATURDAY: The heaviest rain and thunderstorms will occur between 11 AM and 10 PM. A few thunderstorms may bring wind gusts to 40-50 mph along with very heavy downpours. The heavy rain and thunderstorms will come in periods with temperatures 55°-60°. The average high for today is 38° and the average low is 20°. So, we are running 20 to 25 degrees above average. After 10 PM the rain will end quickly from southwest to northeast.

Some thunderstorms may be severe this evening south of KC where there is a slight risk of severe weather. The main threat is damaging winds. The green is a level 1 of 4 of the severe weather outlook criteria. It is called a marginal risk.

SUNDAY: The day will start briefly in the 40s, but temperatures will fall to the 30s by Chiefs kickoff with west winds 15-35 mph. This will bring wind chills to the teens and 20s. It will be far too warm for any black ice by Sunday morning. Sunday and Sunday night we may see flurries and a few snow showers, but we do not expect any accumulation. A dusting may occur in northwest Missouri.

Monday will be mostly cloudy, windy and cold with flurries possible. Highs will be 30-35 with wind chills in the teens and 20s as a snowstorm exits the northern Plains.

Look how much snow will occur from northern Nebraska to northwest Minnesota, 10"-20"! If you are headed up I-29 or I-35 keep this in mind.

Christmas is over but there is still plenty of events. Tonight is the 7th night of Hanukkah, the Chiefs play the Chargers on Sunday and we ring in 2020 Tuesday night.

There is a Drunk/Texting Driving Warning in effect for New Years Eve in memory of all of those injured or killed in drunk driving and texting and driving accidents.

Have a great weekend and be safe.
