Good morning bloggers,

It will be around 25 degrees colder today than what happened on this date in 1936. In 1936, the temperature reached 113 degrees in Kansas City at the Downtown Airport. This is where the weather readings were recorded each day back then. The site moved to KCI Airport around 35 years later. It has never gone above this number, so One Hundred Thirteen degrees is the highest temperature in Kansas City's recorded history.

The highest temperature in Kansas City this summer has been 94°. I believe it has never happened where it didn't get up to at least 95° at some point during a summer in KC history. We still have around five more weeks where it can get that hot before fall begins settling in, so let's see what happens. We know it will not happen anytime soon. Right now a cold front is approaching:

There will be a cold front lining up north and west of Omaha, NE later today. Thunderstorms will be forming near this front. Will they make it into our area tonight or early Saturday? There is a decent chance. Right now, most of the models have the rain breaking up before it gets to KC. We are going with a 30% chance after midnight tonight.

Everything is green, but the lawn is in need of a good one inch of rain right now. With humidity as high as it is right now, the dewpoints are in the 70s, it would be surprising on some level to see any thunderstorms fall apart as they approach us later tonight. At the same time, this type of rain event has missed KC many times in this years LRC.

Kansas City Weather Time-line:

  • Today: Mostly sunny with a few afternoon cumulus clouds. Hotter with a south breeze at around 10 mph. High: Near 90°
  • Tonight: Increasing clouds with a 30% chance of thunderstorms after midnight. The wind will shift to the northwest by morning at 10-25 mph. Low: 67°
  • Saturday: There is a chance of an early morning thunderstorm. And, then the chance of rain is zero after around 10 AM through Sunday. Northwest winds 10-20 mph and decreasing later in the day. The humidity will drop. Low: 58° High: 83°
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny. An awesome summer day. Expect nearly no wind. High: 82°
