Good Tuesday bloggers,

Today is the best day to do the leaves. Wednesday & Thursday will feel great, but south-southwest winds gusting over 40 mph will make leaf gathering tough. Yes, your clean yard today, could be covered tomorrow. Later Thursday may see the wind let up. Rain chances increase Friday-Sunday.

This was major hurricane Iota Monday afternoon around 1 PM. It was at it's strongest, a category 5 with 160 mph winds. It made landfall around 10 PM Monday in Nicaragua as a strong category 4. It is now moving west across Nicaragua and rapidly falling apart. The remnants will emerge into the Pacific Ocean Wednesday where it is not expected to regenerate. I believe Iota was the only category 5 of this crazy season.

Now we are looking at the satellite picture of the eastern Pacific Ocean and western USA from around noon Tuesday. There is a big storm approaching the Pacific Northwest, but that will move east, break into pieces and be a non-factor in our region. The system we are watching is south of the Aleutian Islands. It will enter southern California Friday and track into the Plains and Midwest over the weekend as a front drops in from the northwest.

Meteorology lesson:
Iota is also called a "Tropical Cyclone". A low pressure/storm system in the tropical latitudes. The big storm in the Pacific Northwest is called a "Mid Latitude Cyclone". It is a low pressure/storm system at the mid latitudes.

Now on to our weather.

We are tracking one storm system the next 5-7 days. There are some changes to the forecast.

TUESDAY: Another nice fall day with 100% sunshine. Wind: E-SE 5-15 mph. High: 55-60

TONIGHT: Clear and not as cold with lows in the 40s. Wind: S 10-20 mph.

WEDNESDAY-THURSDAY: Mostly sunny and dry with highs 65-70 Wednesday and 70s Thursday. Lows in the 40s Wednesday and 50s Thursday. It will be very windy with gusts over 40 mph from the south. The wind will decrease later Thursday. Due to the dry ground there is an elevated fire danger.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY: A front will stall in the region as a system tracks in from the southwest. This is the recipe for widespread precipitation, which we could use. Now, where will it set up?

MONDAY: Partly cloudy with lows in the 30s and highs around 50.

The 5 minute video below details the wind and rain in our forecast. We also take a look at the latest with Iota.

Have a great week and stay healthy.
