Good morning bloggers,

There was a brief rain shower early this morning while most of you were sleeping. Unfortunately, this is another storm that just swung and missed, thus striking out for any significant rain or snow, that we really need. There may be another 0.01" to 0.10", but that is it from today's storm system. A few rain showers were forming as I was finishing this blog around 7 AM.

Let's begin with this forecast map valid Saturday morning! There is one storm over the Great Lakes states with a trailing area of snow near KC, and there is a second storm over the western states that will miss KC to the south. This second storm will have impacts on Oklahoma.

There is a pretty good chance of some snowflakes on Saturday morning, but the chance of any accumulation is low. There may be a dusting to an inch closer to the Iowa border, but I am not expecting any accumulation as far south as KC. When you look at this next map, it is hard to believe that this area of snow, shown in blue, will fall apart as it moves in, but it likely will. The storm causing it is forecast to intensify over the Great Lakes and this will weaken the part of the storm impacting our area

This next image shows the areas of snow on Saturday morning. We will still be monitoring this closely, but it will likely be weakening as it approaches. Again, the area near the Iowa border has the best chance.

Now, if you are a weather enthusiast like me, you may be getting a bit frustrated. This first storm is bringing us a little bit of rain, and then perhaps those morning snowflakes on Saturday. Then, the second storm will miss us to the south as you can see below. What is going on? This pattern we are in right now is just not a good one for getting these storm systems to intensify near us. This will likely continue, but I do see a few parts of this years LRC that will bring us some better precipitation chances, but just not too many of them.

Oklahoma City already had a major ice storm in October. And now they have this storm that will produce some heavy snow. It seems so close to us, and yet so far away. This Sunday storm system is one we predicted to be over the Sooner state weeks ago. I was hoping it would be a bit larger, but unfortunately this storm will swing and miss for KC, and we strike out again.

We added 0.01" to our 0.00" rainfall total this month, but my goodness is it getting dry. Here are the numbers.

The bands of rain from this storm have already shifted north and east. Here is the radar from 6:25 AM:

Kansas City Weather Time-Line:'
