There are two storm systems approaching our area and it will seem like winter is starting early. I promise, it will warm up again in November, but not this week.

The first storm system is approaching our area today. There will be a rain/snow line developing this evening north and west of KC. This is the line where there will be rain southeast of this line and snow northwest of this line. Kansas City will likely begin seeing rain by 6 or 7 PM, and then the rain/snow line may inch into the area with some accumulation of snow north of KC.

The second storm is due in Wednesday into Thursday. The trees are full of leaves, and we must watch this second storm closely. It is too early to tell if it will produce accumulations. If it does, the weight of the snow may be too much for the trees to handle. One or two inches of snow would not be a big problem for the trees, but any more than that would be. This happened once before in our history, on October 22, 1996. We will learn more about this second storm later today into Tuesday.

Kansas City Weather Timeline:

  • Today-Tonight: Cloudy with a 100% chance of rain developing between around 5 PM and 7 PM. The rain may change to snow before ending. Temperatures reaching around 40 then dropping into the 30s.
  • Tuesday morning: Temperatures will drop to near 30 degrees and any standing water may freeze, so there could be a few patches of ice early Tuesday depending on if there is any standing water.
  • Wednesday-Halloween: The second storm will spread rain our way with a good chance of it changing to snow before ending. Some accumulation of the snow is possible.

We will learn a lot more in the next 24 hours. We will go in-depth with KC's most accurate forecast on 41 Action News today and tonight. Have a great start to your week, and stay with 41 Action News, and we'll keep you advised.
