KC Pet Project to the rescue!

Twenty-five chinchillas were rescued from dreadful conditions after their breeder neglected their housing area for quite some time.

The animals are now under care at KC Pet Project and the shelter is working to assess their health status before placing them into foster homes.

How can you help?

The shelter is asking the public's assistance to help provide the resources needed for their care and housing.

KC Pet Project is in need of the following supplies:

  • Chinchilla cages (guinea pig cages are acceptable too)
  • Timothy hay
  • Alfalfa hay
  • Chinchilla food (preferably Oxbow or Mazuri brand)
  • Bedding (pine or aspen)
  • Cage accessories

These items may be purchased at local Petco stores or through the shelter’s Amazon Wish List.

KC Pet Project is also seeking fosters who will help these animals recovery in a home. If you are interested in fostering, please email Alex[dot]Heule[at]kcmo[dot]org.

The KC Pet Project main shelter location, the Pet Adoption Center in Zona Rosa, and the Petco Pet Adoption Center are open seven days a week.
