QuikTrip wants to expand one gas station in Westport, but the community is not sure.

It presented its plan to a city committee Tuesday. The committee voted against recommending full approval. The plan now heads to the city council, and the council is expected to debate the plan in the coming weeks.

Critics said they don’t want more traffic or drivers on their streets.

The gas station on Westport Road and Mercer Street wants to expand – to have more pumps and turn its current spot into a superstore.

But, there would be growing pains. Construction would shut down about two blocks of Mercer. Neighbors said that traffic would feed onto Holly Street.

The West Plaza Neighborhood Association is against the move.

"It's already dangerous. With the increased traffic it would be more, and it's a 24-7 operation," said Julie Tenenbaum, VP of West Plaza Neighborhood Association.

Of course not everyone is a naysayer.

Some businesses think it could drum up business.

QT said it believes it could be a good fit for the area.
