For one Belton neighborhood, the trash keeps piling up. Homeowners in Cimarron Trails tell 41 Action News their garbage has not been picked up in weeks.

“It’s just bags and bags full of trash that’s just sitting out here,” said Augie Madrigal, who currently has five overflowing garbage bins in front of his home. “I had to take some cardboard boxes out … just so we had more room in our trash cans.”

According to neighbors, the issue started just before Christmas. Each home in the development received a letter stating Deffenbaugh would not be collecting the trash.

“They have come faithfully every Monday morning for as long as I have lived here,” said Dustin Garrett, a resident of three years. “But like I said, for the last three weeks or so, something is happening beyond my control.”

41 Action News contacted both Deffenbaugh and the Cimarron Trails Homeowners Association, which is responsible for garbage collection.

Representatives for Deffenbaugh said a “failure of payment” forced the company to suspend pickup in the neighborhood.

The homeowners association president would not specify what lead to a suspension of service. The president told 41 Action News it was several issues and a bulk pickup has been scheduled for Wednesday with a different service, KC Disposal. The president also said the Homeowners Association Board is working towards finding a long-term solution.

“We have more and more trash coming out and it’s just sitting there piling up,” said Caitlin Rush.
