Clay Chastain showed up to the Transportation and Infrastructure committee meeting Thursday morning to fight for his ballot measure regarding a light rail system for Kansas City.

This is not the first time Chastain has attempted to get a light rail in KC.

The transportation activist was given two minutes to speak, went over his time, and eventually was told he was out of order.

“We need to get past the name of Clay Chasten and get to an issue that affects this city’s future and well being, sir!” said Chastain after his time was up.

Councilman Jermaine Reed then pounded his gavel and told Chastain he was out of order.

When he asked if the committee had any questions they said ‘no,’ and Chastain said they were showing hostility towards the residents of Kansas City and what they want.

Chastain has been fighting for a light rail for many years, and he said although he is no longer a resident of Kansas City, the fight is near and dear to his heart.

“I have a personal connection with this city and I understand its problems, and I believe I have the innovative mind to solve this problem. How many people are passionate about public transit?” said Chastain.

The measure for a light rail is on the August 8 ballot. If it passes, it will add a 3/8 cent tax increase for the next 25 years to help pay for the project.
