This weekend the Old Settlers Fair set up shop in Olathe, only to have tents destroyed by Friday’s down pouring rain and gusting winds, that cost some hundreds of dollars.

Tarot card reader, Katherine Zimmer, had her tent knocked down. She says not only was the tent ruined but also other merchandise from her employer.

"We were all wet trying to salvage whatever we can, it was awful," said Zimmer. "We were here at midnight trying to salvage whatever we can and it was pretty sad."

Dan Stephens with Big Country Family Trees also had his tent destroyed.

"It was bad, it was crumpled up pretty bad," said Stephens.

Organizers for the Old Settlers Fair tell 41 Action News that they tried to warn people of yesterday’s down pouring rain and gusting winds before it hit.

"We did go around and we started about 8 o'clock telling them that the storm is coming in,” said Jay Lang with Grounds Chair Old County Settlers Association.

Lang says they told vendors to lower tents, and that by 9:30 it was too late for those who didn't take action.

"They're out, it's probably going to cost them another 180 or 200 dollars for next show in order to buy another tent," said Lang.
