It's safe to say Gary Lezak has a new favorite book. It's a children's book he wrote about his own dogs.

"We go to adopt Sunny, and my other dogs aren't so sure about that," said Lezak of the storyline. "Windy, Stormy and Breezy are just like, 'Uh oh, what's going on here? We don't know about this.'"

Lezak began writing about a year ago before bringing in illustrator Rob Peters to bring the story to life.

"Gary sent me like a million pictures of Sunny and the other dogs and gave me some really good models to work off of," said Peters laughing.

The final result will teach kids about the weather, family bonding and about a cause close to Lezak's heart -- adopting pets who need homes.

"So many animals out there that need to be adopted, so I think people can get a great dog through adoption," said Lezak.

The book sells for $18.95. It's currently available on Amazon.com & BarnesandNoble.com. It will hit bookstores next week.

"I think people are going to love the story," said Lezak. "There's something about the story that has been written that I think children of all ages are going to love."

Lezak will sign copies of the book on September 7 at 7 p.m. at the Plaza Library.
