The North Kansas City School District will ask voters to approve a no tax increase bond issue in August.

The district is facing overcrowding problems as an additional 150 to 300 students join the district every year.

The school board is asking voters to approve a $114 million bond request. The money would go toward renovating the 90-year-old Northtown High School main building and add two additional elementary schools.

The district told 41 Action News its demographers said four out of its five schools are currently at capacity and most of its elementary schools north of 152 Highway are at capacity.

If voters approve the bond, construction would begin in October, with the new elementary schools opening in August 2018.
