Rep. Emanuel Cleaver walked the streets of Oak Grove Wednesday, seeing the damage from Monday night's EF-3 tornado.

Cleaver was worried that the level of damage would not qualify the city for federal emergency assistance. He said he would try to fight for it in Washington.

"Everybody who is listening to this should be angry. If you live in Kansas City, Missouri or Kansas. If they think fairness is the order of the day in the United States, this isn't fair," said Cleaver. "If I live in a small town I don't get any help."

Cleaver also took a moment to meet with students from Oak Grove schools who volunteered their time to help families sort through rubble and salvage their belongings.

Freshman Jimmy Malone said his home wasn't damaged because he lives in the country, but he wanted to help others.

"It's devastating, but it's really amazing to see the community come together and work together in this catastrophic event," said Malone.

Oak Grove is expected to go back to school on Thursday.

Cleaver will also go to other nearby towns that have storm damage.
