When Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital opened in 1974, Vietnam veteran Roberto Gonzales was one of the first patients.
According to NBC affiliate News 4 in San Antonio, Gonzalez is paralyzed. With his organs failing, he made a request from his hospital bed: He wanted to see his horses Sugar and Ringo one last time.
"Horses are his life. We've been training and raising horses for over 30, 40 years," Gonzalez told News 4. "My husband was one of the only handicapped or paralyzed licensed horse trainers in Texas." MORE
