A lawsuit filed Friday morning claims a doctor at the University of Kansas Hospital mistakenly removed a patient's organ and then covered it up.

Dr. Lowell Tilzer, who works at the hospital, filed the whistleblower lawsuit, claiming a fellow doctor mistakenly diagnosed a patient with cancer, removed an organ during treatment and then, when the doctor allegedly realized his mistake, didn't tell the patient and covered it all up.

The University of Kansas Hospital released the following statement:

We are not in a position to provide detailed feedback at this time.

However, just from a brief review of the allegations made, there is little to nothing in the petition that we believe to be grounded in truth.

The patient to whom Dr. Tilzer’s petition references was fully informed of the diagnosis and treatment plan after surgery and prior to leaving the hospital, and is pleased with the care and clinical outcome.
