KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It’s getting busy at the Kansas Speedway as events begin for the big NASCAR weekend.

Thousands of fans, ready for some race action have been camping out since the gates opened Friday.

Bill Trotter and his two brothers transformed a party bus into their NASCAR home away from home.

“Our friends are over here, we’ve got two or three spots here altogether, so they’ve got the TV, we’ve got the grills and we have a big fire pit here and this is kind of like the party place around here,” said Trotter.

If you plan on attending race weekend, the Kansas Speedway wants you to give yourself some extra time because it will take you longer to get through the gates.

The Speedway is increasing its security measures which will look more like Arrowhead or Kauffman Stadium.

Security will be checking bags and coolers at the gates. For the first time ever, fans will also have to go through wand and vehicle inspections.

The Speedway has posted signs around the Speedway that ask if fans “See something, say something.”

With over 17 hours of trackside coverage, it takes a lot of manpower. The NASCAR on NBC TV Compound is where all of the behind the scenes magic happens throughout race weekend.

  • 7 mobile production trucks
  • 20 miles of cabling
  • 150 production personnel
  • over 50 cameras

That’s how spectators can follow all of the race action from the comfort of their homes.

NASCAR Hall of Famer and NBC Sports Analyst Dale Jarret experiences it first-hand twenty weekends out of the year.

“It’s a tremendous effort that’s put forth to bring the fans the best possible production that you can, to make them feel as much here as they can sitting in their chair or couch at home,” said Jarret.

NBC Sports Group’s race coverage from the Kansas Speedway begins Saturday at 1 p.m. on NBC, with XFINITY Series racing and culminates Sunday at 1 p.m. on NBCSN with Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series racing.
