11-year-old dies after fireworks accident in Jackson County

An 11-year-old boy is dead after an accident with fireworks in Jackson County.

Jackson County Sheriff Deputies were called to 15530 150th in rural Mayetta, Kan. shortly before noon July 21, according to a release. Upon arrival, deputies found Colby Harris deceased at the scene.

An investigation found that Colby Harris was experimenting with fireworks and other minor explosives. He was home alone for a short time before the 911 call was made. His death was ruled accidental. The preliminary cause of death is massive blood loss caused by shrapnel.
