Jackson County’s fifth Annual Fourth of July Celebration ended with a bang over Longview Lake on Monday.

Anywhere from 18,000 to 20,000 people were expected at the free event which featured free concerts by local band Barbwire Revolt and The Romantics with their hit single "What I Like About You.”

A highlight of the event was a special military tribute. Michele Newman, director of Jackson County Parks and Recreation, said, "With the military tribute, we've got the Army, the Navy, the Air Force. We've got sky divers."

A kid’s blast zone had games and inflatables for children of all ages. As for eats, there were 13 locally owned food trucks.

The highlight was the largest fireworks show in the Midwest, right over Longview Lake. "This is right up there with the most fun and spectacular events we will put on this year,” Newman said.

Preparations for next year’s celebration are already underway.
