Police have asked residents in the Highlands area north of Hutchinson, Kansas, to evacuate due to a wildfire.
The message was posted on the Hutchinson Police Department Facebook page.
The fire began Saturday and spread a mile north of its original location before crews arrived. Officials told KSNW that it was 80 percent contained on Sunday afternoon.
As of Sunday afternoon, the fire chief reportedly burned 1,200 acres. A state of emergency was declared in the county to bring in state resources for recovery efforts.
