Sunday marked the 73rd anniversary of the USS Missouri's christening.
It was christened by Mary Margaret Truman, the daughter of President Harry S. Truman, on Jan. 29, 1944.
The ship participated in two battles in World War II, including the Battle of Iwo Jima. On Sept. 2, 1945, she hosted several world powers to sign a peace treaty with Japan.
It went on to serve in the Korean War. It was decommissioned for good in March 31, 1991.
