Seems there are some players who know how to play through the pain of high school football.

Bishop Meige senior Dawson Downing knows what it's like to have to sit on the sideline following an injury.

"A couple of weeks ago against Garner got a face mask in my hand and broke the metacarpal in my index finger," said Downing.  "We had surgery the next Tuesday, missed the Blue Valley game and was back last week against Aquinas."

Downing had 32 carries and three touchdowns in his triumphant return, helping the Stags to a 41-21 win.

So far his talents have been getting him noticed all around the country, which isn't bad considering he's just 16 years old and maturing into one of the best running backs in the area.

"Where ever he goes he's going to be a great player in that program," said Stags head football coach Jon Holmes. He's  young , he's going to grow physically. He's real sharp mentally so he will be fine wherever he goes."
