KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Freshman need time to develop. Freshman are not ready for the big stage. Freshman are not supposed to be any good. Freshman are...blah, blah, blah.
At this point, Notre Dame de Sion Freshman Girls Golf Star Megan Propeck may roll her eyes, turn around and walk off. However, she may just stand right there and debate with you on why the previous aforementioned statements are not true.
Propeck won the 2017 Missouri Class 2 Girls Golf individual championships several weeks ago. She also helped the Sion Girls Golf team finish 2nd overall at the state tournament. Nevermind the fact that she's done this as a freshman.
"This season went really well. Our team really improved," Propeck said. "And, I got to test a lot of different aspects of my game throughout the course of the season."
Sion Girls Golf Head Coach Dana Hoeper knows how special Megan is and what she brings to the entire team.
"When I was figuring up her average, she ended up with a 35 average for 9 holes which is probably one of the best I've had ever in 18 years of coaching," Hoeper said. "She works really hard obviously. But, she's also an inspiration to the other players on the team. I think she encourages them by the way she plays golf, by the way she approaches the game. And, she's just stepped everything up for our whole team."
The future is certainly bright for this young star. She's already won other tournaments throughout the season such as the Smith-Cotton Classic along with the state tournament district and sectional titles. Propeck's dream is to play the sport in college.
"I would love to play golf in college. That's a dream of mine. Has been for a long time. So, I'd love to do that. I would love to [even go pro] if I had the opportunity to after college. But, right now, I'm just focusing on high school golf, getting through that and try to play in college."
