ROYALS: Top Moments from the 2015 World Series

The 2015 World Series was one for the books.

After being in a drought for 30 years, Kansas City won its first Fall Classic since 1985, and the Royals were crowned the champions of baseball after defeating the New York Mets in five games.

Now we’re taking a look back at some of the top moments from the World Series that Royals fans will never forget.

Alcides Escobar’s inside-the-park home run

In perhaps the most exciting way to start Game 1 of the World Series, Escobar swung at the first pitch of the game and ripped the ball to left-center, and with a lucky bounce in the outfield, Escobar raced all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park homerun.

Alex Gordon hits a homerun to center field sending Game 1 into extra innings

With the Royals down to their last two outs in Game 1, Alex Gordon came to the rescue and blasted a solo shot to straightaway center field off of New York’s Jeurys Familia, giving KC the chance they needed to take Game 1 in extra innings.

Edinson Vólquez pitches with a heavy heart following his father’s death

It’s hard to imagine the rollercoaster of emotions that Vólquez experienced after learning his father, Daniel, had passed away following Game 1 of the World Series. Once Vólquez returned to the mound after the funeral to start Game 5, he wrote his father’s initials in the dirt before throwing six innings and allowing only one run in the series-clinching victory for the KC Royals.

Christian Colon’s World Series-clinching hit in Game 5

Talk about pressure. Christian Colon had not appeared in any of the Royals' previous 15 postseason games, yet he was called to the plate with the go-ahead run on third base in Game 5 of the World Series.

Colon stepped in the batter’s box with two strikes in the 12th inning and lined a base hit to left field, scoring Jarrod Dyson to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. Colon was the definition of an unlikely hero.

Eric Hosmer scoring the game-tying run in Game 5 on a nail-biting dash from third base to home plate

In what could arguably be one of the most dramatic plays in World Series history, Hosmer made a daring dash for home plate with the game on the line and slid safely to provide the Royals with yet another rally to beat the New York Mets 7-2 in 12 innings to clinch the Fall Classic.

Salvador Perez becomes the first catcher since 1992 to win the World Series MVP

Perez was a major anchor for the Royals in the 2015 Fall Classic, as the Gold Glove catcher hit .364 (8 for 22) with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored to unanimous claim the World Series Most Valuable Player.

The Kansas City Royals clinching their first World Series crown in 30 years

What a season. What a celebration. The Royals knocked off the New York Mets in five games to win their first championship since 1985.

** But we can’t forget about the memorable World Series parade.

These were some of our favorite Royals moments from the 2015 World Series Championship. What were some of yours?
