When you need to know the latest weather information, 41 Action News and Storm Shield offer the advanced warnings you need to keep your family safe.

Our Storm Shield alerts give you the latest weather data and alerts for the area you are in. With Storm Shield, you can either get an alert on your mobile device or a phone call warning you about impeding weather.

Here's how it works:

  • When severe weather is approaching the area you are in, you will get up-to-date alerts and information on what is moving in.
  • You can then share those alerts to your family and friends to keep them safe.

How to get started:

Once you install the Storm Shield app to your mobile device, you must open and configure the app in order to receive alerts. This includes:

  • Entering your home ZIP code
  • Selecting 41 Action News
  • Adding locations you want to monitor
  • Selecting the alerts you want to receive

Once you have configured the app, you don't need to keep it open to receive the alerts.

You can even customize specific locations. For example, you can put in your home address, your child's school address, your work address and your mother's home address. When severe weather moves into any of those locations, you will get alerts warning you about what is coming in. You can add up to five saved locations by tapping on Settings, then Locations.

To customize a location name, tap on the desired location. You will then see a map centered over the desired location and a text field containing the name. Tap the text field to edit the location name. When you are done, tap Save to save your changes.

How to download:

Storm Shield works for both Android and iOS phones and tablets. It costs $2.99.

Storm Shield Phone Call Alerts

To keep you safe, Storm Shield provides a phone call or text alert as soon as the National Weather Service issues a warning for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and flash floods. You can select up to three phone numbers to get the alerts. This can be your home landline number, your cell phone number or your work number. As soon as the National Weather Service issues a warning, Storm Shield alerts will call or text you, even in the middle of the night.
