KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County officials confirmed a second case of COVID-19 on Tuesday.

The Jackson County Health Department announced that a man in his 40s who recently returned from travel abroad had tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Both cases confirmed in Jackson County were announced Tuesday.

County health officials are “working to identify any close contacts of the individual,” the Jackson County Health Department said in a release. “Those that were exposed will be contacted by JACOHD as soon as possible. The individual is isolated appropriately at home and doing well. The family of the individual is in quarantine.”

“We ask that you continue to follow the recommended prevention measures, such as washing your hands, practicing social distancing, and covering your cough or sneeze,” Jackson County Health Department Director Bridgette Shaffer said in a statement. “Additionally, if you are ill, stay home.”

That marks at least 16 confirmed cases in Missouri. There are at least 19 confirmed cases in Kansas, including one in Ford County who traveled to the area from out of state.
