KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Health officials announced three new cases of COVID-19 in Cass County on Thursday night, bringing the total in the county to at least four.

According to a release from the Cass County Health Department, the cases were located in Belton, Raymore and Creighton.

All patients are currently in isolation, according to the Cass County Health Department, which is working with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to identify and contact people who may have been exposed.

“We continue to urge the citizens of Belton to abide by the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) including frequent hand-washing and social distancing,” Belton Police Chief and Director of Emergency Management James Person said in a separate statement from the city. “And, to heed the guidance of the County’s Public Health Emergency Order and the Order issued by Belton Mayor Jeff Davis. Our work with Cass County health officials is ongoing as we continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Officials in Raymore and Creighton did not send a separate release.

Belton Mayor Jeff Davis previously issued an order that prohibits sit-down dining in local restaurants and public gatherings of 10 or more people among other measures to help prevent further spread of COVID-19.

“Our number one priority continues to be protecting our residents, especially the most vulnerable,” Davis said in a statement. “No one knows today for how long, but we must endure the disruptive changes to our life brought on by this pandemic so we can overcome this public health challenge.”

As of Wednesday evening, there had been two reports of positive COVID-19 patients in Cass County, one confirmed by state health officials and another by a private lab.

County officials had yet to respond to an email from 41 Action News seeking clarification Thursday evening.
