University of Kansas Health System daily update

During Tuesday's update from the University of Kansas Health System, doctors said they have 27 active COVID-19 patients at the hospital, with 11 patient in the intensive care unit and seven of those on ventilators.

Guest Phil Griffin, director of disease control and prevention at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to discuss the state's COVID-19 vaccination plan.

Raytown students to remain virtual

The Raytown school board voted Monday night to leave all secondary students in a virtual learning model until at least January. Pre-K and elementary-aged students will return to in-person classes on Oct. 26 as planned.

Kansas Department of Corrections reports inmate death

The Kansas Department of Corrections reported another inmate death at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility related to COVID-19. It is the sixth such death. The inmate was 60 years old and had underlying health conditions.

Weston library reopens after COVID-19 exposure

The Mid-Continent Public Library's Weston Branch is back open after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. The branch closed on Oct. 14 for contact tracing and deep cleaning. The library is resuming curbside and in-branch technology services.

Norton County, Kansas, experiences fastest-growing COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S.

According to the Associated Press, Norton County had the largest number of new cases per 100,000 residents of any county in the U.S. for the two weeks ending Sunday. A nursing home in the county has seen 62 cases and 10 deaths from the virus, and there have been over 100 cases at the state prison located in the county.

CDC issues mask guidance for public transit

The Centers for Disease Control on Monday issued new guidance related to masks and public transit. The CDC now recommends that passengers should not only wear masks on public transit, but also while waiting at bus stops and other hubs.
