GRANDVIEW, Mo. — Several districts are going into their second full week of food deliveries since the buildings are closed due to COVID-19.

Grandview C4 School District has various school locations for its 'grab and go meals' program.

Superintendent, Dr. Kenny Rodrequez said they are doing what they can to fill the increasing need for however long it takes.

"We turned it around in a hurry and we were able to get this done," Rodrequez said. "We feed over 1,300 kids a day right now and we see that number probably increasing, and as long as this continues, I think that number is going to go up."

The meals are provided between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Families pull up in their cars and district staff members pass out the meals.

Parent Rachel Robinson picked up a meal for her four-year-old daughter and said she's trying to adjust with everything that's currently happening.

"It’s been pretty good. I've been trying to keep myself entertained, her entertained, it’s kinda hard," Robinson said. "It’s definitely different, but we’re making it work the best that we can. It's crazy, I really don't know, just trying to figure it out day by day."

She said the meal program provides some relief.

"It’s just really great to be able to provide school lunches for her," Robinson said. "I know she’s out of school and really likes the school lunches and everything, so it’s a great opportunity for her to still be able to get that."

While there are a handful of food delivery sites at the schools, the district also buses the lunches to a dozen apartment complexes throughout the district.

"We have some populations, so when you talk about one or two apartment complexes that have between 300 or 400 of our students possibly housed in that particular area," Rodrequez said. "It just made sense for us to do an outreach there. We’ve tried to do a better job you know in our community of going in those apartment complexes and building relationships with families. This is the perfect opportunity to take that to the next level."
