KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Leavenworth County, Kansas, will not have a county-wide mask mandate.
The county commission voted 3-1 Wednesday to opt out of Gov. Laura Kelly’s statewide mask protocol.
Counties in Kansas have until the end of the day to make a decision about a mask mandate.
They have the choice to opt into Kelly’s order, create their own according to their community's needs, or opt out, as Leavenworth County did.
Municipalities can still enforce a mask mandate, however.
Leavenworth County’s two largest cities, Leavenworth and Lansing, have both adopted mask requirements.
