KANSAS CITY, Mo. — We have been tracking the spread of COVID-19 in the Kansas City area since the start of the pandemic.

Updates on the spread of the virus and how it is affecting the metro can be found below for Sept. 29.

3:25 p.m. | United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, one of the largest congregations in the Kansas City area, will resume in-person worship services on Sunday.

Attendance will be limited to 25 to 30% of capacity “in order to maintain safe distancing.” Advance registration and wearing masks are required.

There will be service at 9 and 11 a.m. at the Leawood and Downtown locations, while the West, Overland Park and Blue Springs locations will only have 11 a.m. services.

Online worship services will continue Sunday mornings at 7:30, 9:15 and 11 a.m. with additional services at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Services also are broadcast at midnight, 8 and 11 a.m. on Sundays on 38 the Spot. —TP

1:47 p.m. | Guadalupe Centers will host a free COVID-19 testing drive and food distribution drive on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

The event will have Congressman Emanuel Cleaver as a special guest and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

It will be held at the Villa Guadalupe Campus located at 5123 East Truman Road in Kansas City.

No documentation is needed to attend the event.

11:57 a.m. | The Lee's Summit R-7 School District will move to from virtual learning to hybrid learning for fourth through 12th grade students on Oct. 5.

Students with last names starting with A-K will be in Group A and will attend class in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays. The remainder of the students will be in Group B and will attend class in-person on Thursdays and Fridays. All students will learn virtually on Wednesdays.

11:30 a.m. | Harvesters Community Food Network will hold a food distribution drive at the Truman Sports Complex from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

It's part of the voter registration event hosted by the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and the United Way of Greater Kansas City.

Harvesters says it has enough food to feed 2,000 households.

Attendees do not need to register to vote in order to receive food. —AW

10:15 a.m. | The Lawrence Public Schools Board of Education on Monday voted 4-3 to move from remote learning to a hybrid learning model, effective Oct. 19.

The board also told school administration to develop a phasing plan for returning to a fully in-person learning model, according to the district.

Under the hybrid plan, half of students will learn on-site while the other half learn remotely. All students will do virtual learning on Wednesdays. —AW

9:55 a.m. | The NFL says three players and five personnel for the Tennessee Titans have tested positive for COVID-19. The team will suspend in-person club activities, beginning Tuesday.

The Minnesota Vikings, who played the Titans on Sunday, also will suspend in-person club activities. —AW

9:27 a.m. | Johnson County, Kansas, reported seven new COVID-19 deaths Tuesday. That brings the county total to 153 since the start of the pandemic. -KB
