Former Arson FC coach pleads guilty to child-sex offense

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two months after being arrested for aggravated indecent liberties with a child, a former Johnson County youth soccer coach has pleaded guilty.

Jason Cummins, 37, of Shawnee — a former coach with the Arson FC youth soccer club — was arrested in May after investigation by Overland Park police into allegations of sexual contact with a 15-year-old in November 2019.

Cummins must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, according to the terms of a plea agreement reached July 28.

As part of that plea, the charges against Cummins, a Level 4 felony, was reduced to attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child, a Level 4 felony.

The parties in the case have agreed to probation and Cummins must undergo follow-up evaluations for substance abuse and as a sex offender.

He is not allowed to have contact with the victim or any witnesses.

Cummins will be formally sentenced Sept. 23 in Johnson County District Court.
