KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Authorities said Friday that a grenade found earlier this week at an empty parking lot in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, was live.
The modified hand grenade was found Wednesday morning in the 700 block of Grand Boulevard. It was located with other items that appeared to belong to a homeless person, the Kansas City Police Department tweeted on Friday.
Investigators have not determined who left the grenade in the area. KCPD’s Bomb and Arson Unit will dispose of the grenade, police said.
Police again warned the public not to touch any item that appears to be a grenade.
“It should go without saying, but please don’t leave grenades — even inactive ones — just lying around,” police tweeted earlier in the week.
UPDATE: The grenade was live. It was found among a pile of belongings that appeared be a homeless person's. Investigators have been unable to determine who left it there. Bomb & Arson Unit will safely dispose of it. If you see what looks like a grenade, don't touch it! Call 911!
