Flash flooding meant a loss of patrons at a Kansas City, Missouri gas station on Friday.

The Conoco gas station, located off of 23rd Trafficway and Television Place, was temporarily turned into an oasis surrounded by water on Thursday night.

The Patels, who run the business, said their gas station has flooded three times since 2009.

They told 41 Action News this time the water came up to the door and their pumps were submerged in a foot of water.

The family said the pumps still work and the electricity never failed.

"We saw the water just come suddenly," said Sunny Patel. "It lasted 10 to 15 minutes. Everywhere it's water,  water. It's a good thing the rain has stopped."

He told 41 Action News they are open 24 hours a day and that he had to ride out the storm there Thursday night. He said there were no customers from 11 p.m. until 9 a.m.

Friday morning, Raj and Sunny Patel had plenty of cleanup.

They used a water hose like a power washer to clean the mud off the gas station property.

The Patels said in the past flooding has been much worse and has made it inside their convenience store and ruining merchandise.

Traffic lights at the interesection of  23rd Trafficway and Television Place were still out as of Friday afternoon.

The Missouri Department of Transportation crews said they will have to wait for the water to subside before making the necessary repairs.
