KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The mother of two boys who were killed in Leavenworth and two girls who were kidnapped on Saturday is thankful for those who assisted in the safe return of her daughters.

Tara Jackson said in a statement through her attorney that she appreciates all of the law enforcement officials and the “unknown truck driver that called in a vital sighting” to help locate 7-year-old Nora Jackson and 3-year-old Aven Jackson.

“In addition, she wants to thank everyone that has offered support and assistance in her family’s time of need,” the statement said.

An Amber Alert was issued Saturday afternoon for Nora and Aven after their father, Donald Jackson Jr., allegedly kidnapped them. He was apprehended in Beckham County, Oklahoma, after an hours-long search that spawned Amber Alerts in three states.

The search for the girls began after police were alerted to a homicide scene in the 14900 block of Hillside Road in Leavenworth, where the boys, 14-year-old Logan Jackson and 12-year-old Austin Jackson, were found dead.

Donald Jackson Jr. faces a capital murder charge in the deaths of his two sons. Charges have yet to be filed in connection with the kidnapping.

As of Wednesday afternoon, he still was awaiting extradition back to Kansas.
