KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The NFL has suspended Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu for the team’s first six games, the league confirmed Friday.

Omenihu was suspended for violating the terms of the league’s personal conduct policy. He was arrested in January on suspicion of domestic violence when he was still playing for San Francisco.

Omenihu is eligible to participate in the team’s three preseason games and continue preseason practices, but he won't be eligible to join the team’s active roster until Friday, Oct. 13, during the regular season.

That is one day after a Week 6 game on Thursday Night Football against the Denver Broncos.

He will miss home games against Detroit, Chicago and the Broncos as well as road games at Jacksonville, the New York Jets and Minnesota while suspended.

The first game Omenihu, who signed a two-year deal worth $16 million largely to replace Frank Clark, will be eligible for is an Oct. 22 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Omenihu signed with the Chiefs in March after playing one-and-a-half seasons with the 49ers. Prior to San Francisco, he spent his first 2 1/2 years of his NFL career with Houston.

He had a career-high 4 1/2 sacks last season, giving him a total of 11 1/2 sacks in his four-year career.

The Chiefs declined comment on the suspension.
