Good morning bloggers,

We are having a rather rare April day with freezing rain in Kansas City. The cold air blasted in even stronger than I had forecast. We went lower than everyone else, and it even went lower than what I had forecast last night. I had the temperatures dropping to 33 degrees by noon today, and it is two to three degrees colder than that, and now, look at what is moving in:

The band of rain that is moving in at 9 AM this morning, has thunderstorms embedded in it. It would not shock me to see some sleet with the freezing rain, lightning, and thunder. Some icing is likely on some tree branches. The beautiful red bud trees are blooming a week or two early, and hopefully this will not ruin their blooms. I am not expecting them to be ruined, or burnt by the freeze, and the little icing may make them look pretty. The weather will improve after a 28 degree start to Saturday, and then the blooms will open up.

The colder air is still blasting in, and with the rain moving in, the temperatures will likely not warm up much today. The sun angle is much higher in the sky, but it will be balanced by the rain coming down. Temperaturew may warm a bit later in the day, if the rain shuts down, but if it keeps raining, then the temperatures will hold steady near 30° to 33°. So, some icing is likely.

Kansas City Weather Timeline:

  • Today: Freezing Rain & Rain likely. Some light icing is possible. North winds 10-25 mph with a wind chill factor of 15° to 20°. Temperatures will be stead in the lower 30s.
  • Tonight: Rain ending with temperatures dropping to 28°. Clearing by morning.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny with a high of 55°
