LEAWOOD, Kan. — Cell phone video shows the chaotic aftermath following a shooting outside Center High School graduation ceremony.

The woman who shot the video, Denise Fantroy, told 41 Action News everything happened so fast.

One moment, the graduates were outside the Church of the Resurrection celebrating, the next moment they heard screams for an ambulance.

A bullet had pierced one of Fantroy’s daughter’s classmates. Frantroy’s sister, Candace Dorsey, jumped in to help.

“His mom was holding his upper shoulder so I asked my daughter to throw me a diaper I put the diaper on his shoulder and I applied pressure,” Dorsey said.

As Dorsey aided the victim, people made sure he kept his eyes open.

The victim is David, a senior, who ran track and played soccer during his career at Center High School.

“It’s supposed to be a happy time, walking across the stage and something tragic like this happened,” Dorsey said.

In the midst of the chaos onlookers and Leawood Police worked to track down the shooter who wounded another young man.

Both victims were treated and released from the hospital.

One of David’s family members told 41 Action News Friday evening that’s he going to be fine.

“We all need to come together and make sure that we pay attention to our surroundings. Lives could have been lost,” Fantroy said.

As of Friday, Leawood Police said they are still searching for the shooter.

Detectives spent the day talking to witnesses and reviewing evidence they collected here at the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen something or who may have information to call them at 913-663-9309 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
