KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Bob Williams appeared in Jackson County Court Thursday represented by an attorney for the first time in the felony case against him.

He is accused of taking money from several people to do concrete work, but not performing it.

Williams has hired Independence attorney Eric Roby to defend him.

As Williams and Roby left the courthouse, the 41 Action News Investigators asked Williams if he had ripped people off as they claim.

"No comment, we don't have a comment," replied Williams and Roby in unison.

Williams is charged with three counts each of receiving stolen property and deceptive business practice.

The 41 Action News Investigators first reported about Williams and his company Xtreme Concrete in October 2015.

Gail Yaw said she paid Williams $2,800 upfront on a $3,900 job to put concrete in two basement rooms.

But she said Williams never did the work.

Two years later, Yaw is still paying back a loan she used to pay Williams.

Missouri's Attorney General cites Yaw's case as part of the charges against Williams.

"I'm just glad to see the attorney general's office working so hard to get this wrapped up," Yaw said.

She's now been to three hearings for Williams in the case and is ready to testify against him.

But the case had been delayed until Williams could find an attorney.

He now has one.

"He's wasting a lot of people's time and money once again," Yaw said.

Yaw is not alone.

Julie Schmidt, Sean Daugherty, Doug Southern, and Mickie Turner all told the 41 Action News Investigators similar claims that Williams had ripped them off.

"I don't think anybody is going to get their money back," Yaw said. "I'd like to see him go to jail myself."

"Just got retained in the case, need an opportunity to do due diligence," Roby said. "At this time, we don't have any statement to make."

When Roby first appeared in court Thursday morning, Williams was not there.

The judge threatened to issue an arrest warrant for Williams if he didn't show up.

He eventually did.

Williams is due back in court for the case in November.
