LIBERTY, Mo. -- Charges have been filed against an Independence man who is accused of shooting another man at a pub early Sunday morning.

Patrick Logan Pulse, 28, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to The Landing Eatery and Pub at 1189 W. Kansas Street on a shooting around 1:43 a.m. Sunday.

Michael DePalma owns the restaurant with his wife and said some of his employees were on the patio when they heard gunshots.

"Those are pictures they'll never get out of their minds," DePalma said.

Officers discovered a 41-year-old Kansas City man suffering gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

According to court documents, the victim was working as a Lyft driver and had been called for service at the pub. Witnesses told police Pulse and the driver were arguing before shots rang out. The suspect later told authorities he had gotten into a fight over his girlfriend.

41 Action News reached out to Lyft's corporate headquarters for its reaction to the shooting.

"We are deeply saddened by this incident and our concern is with the well-being of the driver. We have reached out to both the driver and passenger to offer our support and assistance. While it does not appear that this incident was related to activity on the Lyft platform, we stand ready to assist law enforcement in any way we can," Kate Margolis, a Lyft spokesperson, wrote in an email.

The Lyft spokesperson said Pulse was not the intended passenger Sunday morning, but Liberty police said they're still not sure who requested a ride from The Landing.

The victim remains at an area hospital in critical condition. DePalma, too, has offered his support to the driver.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A video previously attached to this story incorrectly stated that the suspected shooter is the man who ordered the Lyft. That is not the case and the video has been removed.
