Updates on the spread of the virus and how it is affecting the metro can be found below for May 23.

11:30 a.m. | Shelter KC has results back from when they administered COVID-19 tests to guests and staff on May 19. The results show that no one at the mission tested positive for the virus. Shelter KC was the first homeless facility to test. They say these test results are the first step in volunteers being able to return. Shelter KC hopes to bring back volunteers in the near future. Meantime, they will continue their cleaning efforts, social distancing and limiting those in the building.

9:15 a.m. | The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services is making some changes to their COVID-19 dashboard. They will now calculate their percent positive rate by dividing the number of positive cases by the number of people tested, versus the number of tests done like previously. This will result in an increase in the rate of positive cases. This change is being made because some people have multiple tests done.
The tests performed by day will also only indicate those with an active COVID-19 case.

7:00 a.m. | The Merriam Farmer's Market begins today with changes due to coronavirus concerns. 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. is reserved for at-risk shoppers and vendors will be more spread out to help shoppers practice social distancing. The market goes until 1 p.m. at 5740 Merriam Drive.
